A DAY AT THE THEATRE: PANACEA STUDENTS EXPERIENCE “HARI HAJURBA” PLAY
Stepping beyond the classroom and into the realm of the arts, 60 students of Panacea Education Foundation recently attended the theatrical drama “Hari Hajurba” at Mandala Theatre after their regular class on Jan 10, 2025.
“Hari Hajurba” is a Nepali drama that depicts the devastating impact of the war on the lives of ordinary people. It’s about a lonely postman who delivers old letters to a bitter old man who misses his granddaughter, taken during the war. The old man slowly opens up to the postman, and the remembrance of memories begins. As they recall, they find a surprising connection with each other, having both gone through loss and the pain of being left behind. Music and the voices of the dead narrate this sad, beautiful story of hope and healing.
For most of the students, it was their first time threatre drama experience. The students were visibly moved by the performance, experiencing a profound connection with the characters and the story as they laughed, cried, and became deeply immersed in the theatrical experience.”Hari Hajurba” shows students the destruction brought about by wars and the number of losses and dislocations during wars, including the pain that the remaining people go through.
By watching the struggles of characters in a play, students empathized with and felt compassion for those in struggles.This theatre outing created memories that will undoubtedly stay with the students for years to come.
